• Every Home should have Balamuri Shankha (Valampuri Shangu in Tamil) in Pooja Room.
  
  
• Anna or Water Abhisheka should be done using this Balamuri Shankha to Lord Shiva.
  
  
• Balamuri Shankha is good for Abhisheka, Theertha, Prasada etc.
  
  
• Yedamuri Shankha is good for only blowing.
  
  
• Women's should not blow the Shankha (Conch).
  
  
• Women's can offer pooja by touching the Shankha.
  
  
• We should not keep empty Shankha.
  
  
• While keeping the Shankha the sharp edge should face East (Purva in Kannada) or North (Uttara in Kannada).
  
  
• We should not keep Shankha on the floor. It should be placed on the stand which are specially made to keep Shankha or it should be placed on the pita.
  
  
• Always keep some water and akshatha (Raw Rice coated with turmeric) inside Shankha with flowers on it.
  
  
• Change the water at regular intervals.
  
  
• When we blow Shankha with left hand it is known as Yedamuri Shankha, when we blow with right hand it is known as Balamuri Shankha.
  
  
• To know the Authenticity of Shankha : Place the Shankha near ear with pin drop silence, you will hear "OM, OM, OM, OM........."
