  • Can a Guruji or Sanyasi touch the mangalya or mangalsutra?

    No, Guruji's or Sanyasi's can only offer blessings but should not touch the mangalya or mangalsutra.

  • Who should perform the custom known as Dhare Herdu?

    Dhare Herdu custom is performed by the bride's parents as a gesture of giving away their daughter to the bridegroom. The bride's hand is placed in her husband's hand and a coconut and beetle leaves are kept on their hands. Then the parents pour a few drops of holy water on their hands. Thereafter, the bridegroom ties the mangalsutra around his wife's neck.
    It should be performed by bride's parents, maternal uncle (Sodhara mava in kannada ; Thai maman in Tamil) and brothers or sisters if present.

  • After marriage, women's leave their mangalya or mangalsutra outside, is this correct?

    No, this is not correct, the husband is the only person who can see the mangalya or mangal sutra.
