Janakpur, Ayodhya - Sri Ramanin Padhayil

The 15th Episode of Sri Ramanin Padhayil began with the below verse from Bala Kanda (73-26) of Valmiki Ramayana

iyam sita mama suta sahadharma charee tava
prateeccha cha enam bhadram te panim grihneeshva panina

Meaning: This Sita, My daughter is going to be your helpmate in discharging your sacred obligations as a householder. Take Her hand in Your own and accept Her (as Your Own). May Auspiciousness betide You! She is highly fortunate and will remain exclusively devoted to You and will ever follow you as a shadow.

King Janaka married his daughter Sita to Lord Rama. We all took part in the event of Sita Kalyanam at Janakapuri. As said earlier, wishing all auspiciousness in the houses of all devotees, let marriage ceremonies take place in the families of all devotees, may everyone beget a child (Santana Prapti), may everyone be in bliss (Anandam). Let us all pray these during the occasion of Sita Kalyanam held at Janakapuri.

After marriage occasion, feastly meal was offered to everyone. The Marriage event took place from morning 10:00 AM to 04:00 PM. With the help of temple management, the food was served to all devotees in the temple premises of Janakapuri. As per the saying "unda kalaippu thondarukkum undu" (the tired after eating, is there even for servants), no one left Janakapuri after having the food. In the meantime they all had the opportunity to discuss with the members of temple management on Janakpur and Lord Rama. All the devotees had the darshan of Lord Rama and Sita once again in the evening.

In South, Lord offers darshan in one form throughout the day. But in North, Lord offers darshan in different forms in a day i.e. different kind of Sevas are offered to Lord by changing the vastra-abharana (garments and ornaments). The different kinds of sevas are Mangal, Shringar, Rajbhog, Uthapan, Shayan etc. Minimum of three sevas will be performed in morning and minimum of three sevas will be performed in the evening. Hence, minimum of six sevas will be performed in a day with six different bhogams (prasadam). So if we happen to stay for a day in North India temples, we can get to see six sevas of the Lord.

After having all these darshan, by leaving Janakapuri it was around 08:30 PM. The local people directed us to cross the border as soon as possible as they were fear of terrorist attacks during the night. We didn't cross the border, from which we entered Nepal, because it will take us to Bihar. But we need to go Ayodhya again after Lord Rama Sita Thirukalyanam. In Rama Anu Yatra 2010, we directly reached Allahabad missing Ayodhya due to Ayodhya verdict. But in Rama Anu Yatra 2006, we all went to Ayodhya. Through Narayanghat, we all crossed Sunauli border and entered Uttar Pradesh and reached Ayodhya. All devotees cross the border with heavy hearted because all are leaving Matha Sita's birth place. Adding to our fear, in one of the buses 10 men in military uniform boarded (we were in doubt on who they are) and they were security force of Nepal, guarded us in crossing 30 KM stretch. Looks like Lord Rama had requested King Janaka to escort us and we reached Ayodhya safely.

Verse from Sundara Kanda (Chapter 33, Verse 17) of Valmiki Ramayana in which Sita says as below

samaa dvaadasha tatra aham raaghavasya niveshane
bhunjaanaa maanuShaan bhogaan sarva kaama samriddhinii

Meaning: "I stayed in Rama's house there for twelve years, enjoying the worldly pleasures belonging to human kind and fulfilling all my desires."

Sri Rama and Mata Sita were 12 and 6 years old respectively during their marriage. Thereafter, Sri Rama and Sri Sita lived in this Kanaka Bhavan for 12 years. We can imagine how many days the Divine Couple would have spent happily in this. It seems, Dasaratha had appointed aged persons of 85-90 years old as guards for this antapuram (domestic quarters).

The marriage group with Lord Rama and Sita from Janakapuri got down in one of the palace of Dasaratha in Ayodhya. In most of the places/temples in Ayodhya we can find the idols of Lord Rama, Sita, Hanuman, Lakshmana, Bharatha etc. In case of Dasaratha's palace we would find the idols of King Dasaratha along with his queens. In Nepal, we would see the idols of Janaka along with his queens. We happen to hear lots of bajans on Lord Rama during our visit in Ayodhya. Everyone can gain enormous benefit by chanting Rama Namam.

We saw the place where Lord Rama and Sita got down in Ayodhya. Now let us see the place where Lord Rama and Sita lived - Kanaka Bhavan. We have already covered all these places during our visit to Ayodhya earlier. Let us have the darshan of Perumal in Kanaka Bhavan for now.
